Walking the walk. How to focus on what matters to you every day.

Do you priorities for today match what really matters to you?

What do i actually mean when i talk about wanting to live in Integrity with who I want to be and what I want to do every day? What does it mean to live your passions every day?

Here is a few bullets to summarise, as this is a long post.

Living with Integrity with yourself every day means walking the walk, channeling your best creativity, passion and energy into what matters to YOU. It means managing your priorities not just your time, being ruthlessly focussed and upholding your boundaries with courage.

That which is truly what matters to you and your priorities is often times NOT what you planned to be doing today or what others seemingly want you to be doing today, because we slip easily into prioritising others in how we plan our time. It is not necessarily what your societally conditioned mind thinks you ‘should’ be doing today or what seems to be the easiest think to do today. It’s not what past or future you wants to do. It’s what present you in the here and now wants to do today.

That means each day you have to fight the inner critic, the inner external validation seeker, the fears of disappointment and disapproval and the fears that you can’t handle the real and projected outcomes of doing what matters to you. You have to positively affirm that you are worthy of the life you desire, that you can actually create that and that you’re helping the world by hindering the world by doing so.

The important thing to remember is that present you for the most part wants to do things that will actually benefit future you as well as present you. Also in the majority of cases it benefits others too, as most people’s passions relate in some way to helping the people and world around them. IF (and this is an important If) you use your full self to generate your priorities, leveraging your heart, head and body wisdom, then you spend your time on your priorities will probably help you be your best self, do your best work and lay great foundations for future you.

However, occasionally it won’t, and you will need to courageously allow yourself to have ‘naughty’ or ‘irresponsible’ or ‘lazy’ or ‘ avoidant days’ for that is what is truthful for you that day. We all need off days and to be irresponsible sometimes. Allowing yourself to have those days and not denying that is who you are that day, is an important part of you living in integrity with yourself.

It’s important to acknowledge that acting in this way does not come naturally to most people, and talking about it is not universally accepted. This way of behaving goes against the years of conditioning that most of us have received. We are told that we have to show up at school or work or events we’ve committed to and use our energy and time to do great work for others. We’re told over and over as children and adults not to be self centred, that doing what we want makes us selfish, that we should go along with the plans that others or ‘past us’ laid out for ourselves.

I believe that society misses a few things:

We will be in our most creative, passionate and empowered state for a bigger chunk of our lives than we would otherwise, feeling more fulfilment than we would otherwise. This doesn’t mean we all have to become Elon Musk or to quit everything we’re doing to go and live on paradise islands having parties all day, but it does mean making sure that what we are doing in our daily lives matches what we want to be doing, so we can do it with a full heart and our full power.

I can’t tell you what YOU should do to live in integrity with yourself every day in your own life, you’re the expert on what you want and how to create that, however I can tell you some of the things that I do to help me.

My priorities

My boundaries re. Work specifically

I will only do paid or unpaid work that directly serves my purpose to help others be Cartographers in their own lives (training myself, doing somatic coaching, facilitating mine and others’ workshops, writing, podcasts, public speaking)

I will ONLY do other work if three conditions are met

What am I doing according to my my priorities today:
