HOW TO BUY CONTACTS ONLINE WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION

The process had its hiccups. The vision test is done through their Simple Contacts app on a smartphone. I used my Samsung Galaxy S10e, a fairly new phone that functions pretty smoothly, and the Simple Contacts app crashed multiple times during my vision test. The test comes in two parts: the eye chart and the redness check. The eye chart involves a row of random letters that you have to read off while standing 10 feet away from your phone. The redness check is a close up of your face where the doctor reviewing your exam can see whether you have any substantial redness or signs of irritation in your eyes. I would do the eye chart; then, as I tried to move on to the redness check, the app would crash. I got around the app crashing by hitting the “Skip” button on the eye chart section, and performing the redness check first. After the redness check, I was able to submit my eye chart just fine.

All in all, I liked that I wasn’t spending $200 for a prescription and I didn’t have to leave my apartment. Also, I liked how quickly everything went. It took about a week from the vision test to contacts delivery. The Simple Contacts vision test does NOT replace the full eye exam that you get at the doctor’s office (you still need to get those at least every few years). It’s a good way to get contacts fast, even when you don’t have a valid prescription.
