Leadership Conclusion

After looking at all the traits that make you a good leader, and all the things good leaders should never do. I believe that I have found the most important way to lead a group successfully. I found this statement in a book that was recommended in the UB library. By now, I have talked about how leaders should build relationships, work as a team, be brave and enthusiastic, reward their team and not take all the credit and much more. Now, I feel this last tip is most important. The book quotes “The best leaders are the best listeners” This quote can relate to almost anybody who has worked as a team with a leader that is successful.

This trait is so important because it shows your team that as a leader you really care. You believe they should have a word in decisions and can create new ideas. That’s how the best teams will succeed. Being a trampoline instead of a sponge as your leader talks to you. Don’t fear adding in to a conversation. One example from the book that was describing a personal experience with a bad leader sounded like this Rachela’s preference was to tell rather than ask. She felt leadership was about directing and coordinating the team’s work. She came across as a if I want any of your ideas, I’ll give them to you. So her team sat back and waited for her to take charge. I feel this is the incorrect way to lead. With the team not being involved she may miss out on good ideas. To summarize the chapter of the book I read, Someone who prefers to work alone, should not be in charge to lead a team.
