More Wright Brothers. Less Icarus.

May 2018. Now that we’ve gotten that out the way, and given ourselves a pat on the back for hurtling through this year, we realise that this year feels like a force to be reckoned with. Yup, all the conversations I’m having seem to have this trend of 2018 leaving traces on our skins, scars on our scars, and skid marks in the oddest of places. And yet — high five — you’re here!

Has anyone told you-you’re a force to be reckoned with too? Capable of moving mountains. I mean you’ve had your stumbles — sure. I’ve had my fair share of scratches and far from graceful falls too. And, we’ve had some highs too. The kinds that remind us how passionate we can be, how bold we can allow ourselves to be, how real we’re willing to be in this thing we call our Purpose (even on those fuzzy days)

Because we really are being asked to step up and brave a whole new world.

Bringing in more courage like The Wright Brothers, More curiosity like Elon Musk, and a lot less Self Entitlement like Icarus.

Don’t get me wrong. Icarus was impressive. Bold. Ambitious. Creative.Smart. All the skills you would thing that would make him invisible and yet ‘poof’ just like that he burnt himself at his own stake of ignorance. After all, it’s easy to think “It’ll never happen to me” right?

And it’s ignorance (not to be confused with innocence) that has been getting us in a whole lot of trouble. Whether it’s a PR angle to the whole Mark Zuckerberg|Facebook vs Cambridge Analytica vs Congress thing. Or believing you’re untouchable right before they announce retrenchments. Or when AI does, in fact, take over your job.

Now, ignorance may not be the only game player in our deepest core wounds being flung out over boardroom tables, or the remains of our business plans, or even the ash of yet another idea that never came to rise — but it still feels like the most real place to start this conversation.

Or write ourselves write out of our very own story.

It’s something most entrepreneurs still tend to do. The “scary” part is it’s only rising with the landscape of the #futureofwork changing, more “competition” coming online, and all the other thoughts that live in-between.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering -it’s not scary as in monsters. It’s scary because it’s unknown.

In fact, there are all these conversations of Future Proofing yourself, and making yourself less redundant and less tossible.

*The great part about that i is that finally, we’re digging into real value and real impact.

*The Ok part — It sounds sustainable and that’s trending (so it must be good for us?).

*The not so great part is: that we’re just shifting the problem under the rug and buying more into the problem then the solution.

I could go on about it.

I prefer to go deeper.
