How My Life Changed by Only Watching Youtube Video

When I started college — and started to managed my own money, I was an online shopping slave. Every end of the month, I used to think about what to buy on the next month. Whether a skincare product, fashion product, or any other things that I actually don’t really need. At that time, the most product that I likely to bought was Thailand skincare product. In my high school, I was using skincare product that my mom bought from pharmacy. I stopped using it because I wanted to try another product that I choose and buy by myself.

My knowledge about skincare was zero. The only reason why I bought all of the Thailand skincare products was because I wondered of having a bright and clean skin just like the models. I knew that the model was originally born with white and bright skin and they also might not using any of the skincare product that they advertise. But still, looking at their skin at many posts of an online shop account, everytime I’m using Instagram, consciously made my brain believe that; that’s beauty. And that’s what I have to be.

Not only skincare product. I was frequently checking on the internet about what fashion style that was trending. Joggerpants, skate shoes — I didn’t even skate, etc. I also followed some fashion influencer on Instagram, and I always wondered to be just like them.

Last year, in 2018, I all of a sudden remembered about an article about Mark Zuckerberg — co-founder Facebook, wears the same t-shirt (not the same item, but the same model and color) everyday. I was searching about what he was doing and I found that it was minimalism lifestyle.

Minimalism lifestyle is about living less. Minimalism for one person is might different for another person. But most minimalists live a minimalism lifestyle by get rid of excess stuff and keep only useful items and not-so useful but sentimental items.

Since I found minimalism lifestyle, I kept watching videos about minimalism on Youtube. And because of that, I didn’t even remember to spend my time to see any other content, included content that related to fashion or beauty. It was 2018 on between October or November. Slowly but sure, my brain was started to think that live less means live more. The less items that I have, the more I have time to enjoy my life. Not worrying about the latest fashion trend, or any other things that I usually thought about. Seriously, I automatically and drastically stopped wanting unimportant stuffs.

I started minimalism by cluttering my items. I gave them away to my friends and family, by posting them on Instagram story. How I did it:

It’s been around 3–4 months since I started minimalism and I still not wanting any unimportant stuffs. I actually thought that minimalism was going to last only a few weeks in me, but it’s not. I changed so much.

There was still a time when I surfed the internet and accidentally found clothing website or marketplace account. I was looking at it for 5–15 minutes and just thinking that it was a good item. And then something woke me up to stopped watching at it. That thing doesn’t want me to start wondering if I wear it and ended up buy it. I stopped, and started to watch heart touching video about dog or cat instead.

1 year update: I don’t watch that much of minimalism videos anymore, but other than that, I’m still doing what I’m doing in this article. No impulsive buying, or even just dreaming to.
