Beware of Earth2 scams!!

As more and more people pour money into Earth2.io game, the scammers have also started popping up in Earth2. Not this is not surprising considering the fact that earth2 is a digital replica of Earth we live in. (if you don’t understand what earth2 is please refer our post below.)

Below are scams that we saw in Earth2 this week.

Fake Bids: Bidding process is one item which makes land sales very exciting in Earth 2. There are different strategies that can be used for bidding (more on that later). In bidding, if you are interested in a land you found in a profile or market place, earth2 lets you bid for the land by specifying the amount to the owner of the land. There are options where owner of land can ask for a higher amount to buyer by providing a counter offer.

Some people have started changing the user names to trick people to think that bid is for a larger amount. Eg: User names like “XXX submitted a bid of 100$ overriding previous”. So seeing this people are going ahead assuming the bid is for very large amount, where as actual bid is only for pennies.

We have seen some of these accounts being disabled by Dev team, but be aware of this scam.

Pump and Dump: Ever wondered why you see sudden increase in market value for a country? It’s happening because of people trying to increase the market value in a country by buying some smaller areas of land at very larger price (usually from within friends group). When people trying to buy land, sees a large market value they will try to buy lands at higher price and these people can make profit out of it.

Always looks at new land price (try clicking on an empty tile to understand the new land price in a country) before buying any land.

Labeling land with famous names: When going though market place you can see some fancy places for cheap prices. Sometimes these are just identical lands named after famous places so that it can be sold for higher price.

Always check the map and if you are not sure, check for the same place in google maps.

Labeling a land as category 1: Some land strips in market place are named as category 1 by scammers, where as in reality it’s just a category 2 or 3 land.

Always check details for the land to ensure its category before paying premium to buy the land.
