How to Reduce the Size of an Electron App Installer

Size matters sometimes. Even in the era of a fast Internet connection, the time wasted to download a software installer inevitably leads to a drastic loss in revenue because of the part of users who abandon the lingering process. This is a prestory of the process of building an app based on Electron framework.

We began with create-react-app and Electron setup. Everything was going smooth, but there was one important thing, an overlooked issue. The original technical requirement asked for minimizing the installer file size. So we started cracking our heads on this part. The size of a default “Hello, World!” app is approx. 115 MB which was way too much for us, we were aiming at app size around 60 MB, the less — the better.
