Brute vs Brain. EQ vs IQ. Power vs Passion. Who wins?

Let us answer the age old question here.

What is more important as a manager- ability to lead from the front by being on ground, or ability to motivate by connecting on a personal level?

What is more important as a manager- emotional intelligence understanding peers, subordinates and seniors; or cognitive intelligence helping in getting the job done better?

What is more important in a manager- discipline or motivation? Gratitude or awe? A or B?

Let us try to answer this question by taking a simple example of a battle between Superman and Batman. Who wins a fight in a cave full of Krypton? Batman. Who wins a fight in the streets of Metropolis? Superman. Who wins a fight inside the Wayne Enterprises building in Gotham? Probably Batman. Who wins a fight in any scenario where Martha’s life is at stake? Probably Superman.

The answer is simple: importance of any ability is always a function of the context surrounding the situation and the situation itself. All abilities have their own importance. But since its practically impossible to be a master of all, its best to work in an environment and in a manner that most suits the mastered abilities.

The real winner is the one that knows oneself and acts accordingly. So we should spend more time in learning ourselves than any new skills.

Its better to NOT have an ability than to NOT know that you don’t!
