SAP Data Intelligence on Azure

To use the SAP Data Intelligence trial version, you need a cloud environment to host the trial. In this chapter we explain how to set this up on the Microsoft Azure environment.

First of all, you need to have a Microsoft Azure account. The free Azure trial will not give enough permissions, CPU and storage to run the SAP Data Intelligence trial. Therefore, a upgrade to the ‘pay-as-you-go’ subscription is needed. Updating the free trial edition is very easy and you will still have the free credit.

You will receive an email from Microsoft that it will take 2 business days. In practice it will take a few minutes. Now Azure is prepared to connect with SAP.

1.After sign in, find the SAP Data Intelligence trial and click on ‘create instance’

3. And for the authorization type, select Extended Authorization for Kubernetes Cluster

4. During the next step, it is important to select the correct region. The region determines where the data will be stored, and indirect which rules apply to it, e.g. GDPR and access. For the trial version this is less important, but we recommend to choose your own region to prevent GDPR issues. In our case, Europe West is recommended, since we are located in the Netherlands.

5. The other settings are by default correct. Before clicking next, make sure the Public Static IP address is marked.

6. All the other settings are fine. The images below show possible settings. The settings marked in yellow are important!

Choose another region if you need to store the data somewhere else.

The default settings should be fine. You can ignore the warning sign.

7. After selecting the settings, click create. The SAP Data Intelligence instance will prepare and check if the Microsoft Azure subscription has enough rights and capacity (such as CPU).
Please note that you have to remember your password for the instance!

8. After the preparation of the instance, the instance will be initialised which can take 200 minutes.

9. After initialisation, the status is ‘Active’ and by selecting your instance, you can ‘Connect’ with the SAP Data Intelligence environment.

Now the SAP Data Intelligence environment is running, you can connect with it. Click connect and the following window will appear.

You need to enter the following settings:
Tenant: Default
Username: System
Password: [password that you have chosen by the set up]

Congratulations, you can start with exploring SAP Data Intelligence!

In the next blog post we will describe how to be predictive with some Covid-19 data. We’ll try to predict when and how a second wave of infections in the Netherlands could look like using public covid-19 data, weather data and so on.
