When Should You Take Down Your Christmas Decorations?

Is there a statute of limitations on decking the halls?

January — that wonderful time of the year when we return to work five pounds heavier from all the holiday treats and try to get fired up about a new set of twelve months. But I’m not even returning to work in 2021; I’m just logging into a part-time gig from the kitchen. As I sit at my makeshift desk and look around our Christmas-bedecked apartment, I wonder if it’s time to put the festive cheer back in the box and get on with January.

I know a family back in the States who put up their Christmas lights one year and liked them so much, they made them a permanent fixture. This is a sure sign something unspeakable festers beneath their candy cane and gumdrop exterior. It’s similar to my childhood friend’s mom who listened to Christmas music in the car year-round. I thought it was funny when she’d give me a ride home from soccer practice in August, happily humming along with Bing Crosby as he crooned Jingle Bells in the 100° Texas heat. Now, I know she was probably a psychopath and her perpetual smile was really a desperate cry for help.
